What is the TiG Community Platform?

Together in Germany (TiG) is a community platform where you can get information and advice on all questions concerning life in Germany. You can exchange information with other community members and the community managers in the forum. You can also network with other community members on the platform and share your knowledge and experiences with them. Everything free of charge, of course. Does TiG cost anything?

The use of the TiG community platform is free of charge.

In which languages is TiG available?

The TiG community platform is currently available in Arabic, German, English, Farsi, French, Russian Turkish and Ukrainian.

Who is active on TiG?

There are several ways to join TiG. You can register and become active as a community member in the forum. If you want to get involved in TiG in a special way, you can become a community expert. The TiG forum is supervised by our community managers. TiG is also supported by professional consultants and experts. You can also browse the forum as a guest without registering. What do the moderators do on TiG?

On TiG you will meet 9 community managers, each of whom is active for one of the 8 languages on the platform. The community managers take care of the community by participating in discussions on the forum and answering your questions or marking correct answers of the community members. The community managers can invite you to private messaging-tool to ask follow-up questions and answer your questions in a protected space. For more difficult questions, they will refer you to professional advisors.

Who are the community experts?

The community experts are members who stand out for their extensive knowledge in one or more topics. In the forum, they share their broad knowledge and experience with other members. During discussions, the community experts ensure that the Netiquette is observed. The community experts are trained by us beforehand and know the platform well.

How do I become a community expert?

You can become a community expert if you: Support TiG and feel connected to our values, help us to keep the netiquette, you bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the forum, help other members with problems and questions would like to exchange ideas with the community management team and the external consultants on technical questions. If you can identify with the role of community expert and would like to support the TiG team, please contact the community managers via email: support@together-in-germany. As a community expert you will receive special rights on the platform and you will be invited by TiG to attend training sessions.

Why are all community members on the platform anonymous?

The contributions in the forum are visible for all visitors of the TiG platform. To keep your data and identity protected, the use of the platform is anonymous. This gives every community member the chance to write freely about their problems and experiences.

At what age can I register on TiG?

Once you have reached the age of 18, you may register with TiG. If you are younger than 18, we have to delete your profile according to Terms of Use

What happens to my data on TiG?

Your data is stored encrypted on a server in Germany.

The forum is open to the public. Therefore, it is important that you do not share personal information about yourself or others in the forum. For a personal exchange, you can use the private messaging-tool, to which you will be invited by the community manager. The chat logs are available for download at any time in your profile settings. Are there any rules for discussion in the forum?

The forum is a place of respectful exchange. Please take care to communicate politely with other community members. There is no place for insults, racism, sexism, LGBTIQ hostility, and other types of discrimination here.

Personal information (e.g. first and last name, address, etc.) of you and others may not be published in the forum. Spam, advertising and fake news will not be tolerated in the forum. You can find more information in our Netiquette

How can I report a violation of the Netiquette?

If you feel harassed in the forum or see discriminatory posts, please report it to the community management team. To do so, click on the „Report Post“ box next to the text or send an email to support@together-in-germany.de We take all complaints seriously. Forum posts that contradict the netiquette or limit the quality of the discussion will be removed by the community managers. Users who repeatedly violate the forum rules will be temporarily banned. In case of serious or regular violations, your account may be deleted.

When will I get an answer to my question?

You will receive an answer to your question within 2 working days from your community. Your question will be answered either by one of the community members or by a community manager. The community managers receive a lot of questions and try to answer your questions as soon as possible. If it takes a little longer, we ask for your patience. We will not leave you alone with your question!

Why do I have to assign my question to a category and a topic?

The categories and topics structure the forum and make it easier for you and other users to find answers. If you assign your question to a category and a topic, it will be seen and answered more quickly by community members who can help you.

Is there the possibility of a video consultation on TiG?

Unfortunately, there is currently no video or voice-to-voice counseling available on TiG. We are working to change that!

How do I register on TiG?

To register on TiG, it is best to start by selecting your preferred language on the homepage. Your account will automatically be created in this language. If you want, you can change the language later.

On the TiG homepage you will find the button "Register" in the top right corner of the header.

If you click on "Register", you can choose whether you want to register with your email address or log in with your Google, Facebook or Twitter account. Here we will show you how to register on TiG.

Registration with e-mail address

  • Enter your email address and a username in the empty fields. Note: For privacy reasons, we ask you not to use your real name but an alias/chat name when registering.

  • After entering your email address and username, you will be asked to agree to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. The consent is necessary to use TiG.

  • As soon as you click on the blue box below the username, you agree to our privacy policy and the terms of use.

  • Confirm your registration by clicking the "Create new account" button. You will then receive an email from us with a link.

  • Click on the link in the email to change your username, create your password and log in.

Registration with social media accounts (SSO):

If you want to register with your account from Facebook, Google or Twitter, this is how to do it:

  • Click on the icon of the social media account you want to use to log in to TiG.

  • You will then be automatically redirected to the social media account and can log in there as usual with your access data.

How do I search for a topic or question?

If you are interested in a specific topic or looking for a specific question in the forum, here are the options:
Options 1: Go to the homepage and enter your topic or a term (e.g. short-term work) in the yellow search bar under the heading "What topic are you interested in?" As you type in your term or topic, you will automatically get suggestions that already exist for your term on TiG. If it fits, select a term that has been suggested to you or if no suggestion fits, enter your own term and press "Search". You will immediately see matching search results in the forum.
Option 2: Select a topic from "Our forum topics" on the homepage. You will be automatically redirected to the topic catalog. There you can narrow your search by entering a search term in the search bar or by selecting a subcategory. Within the subcategory you can see which posts other community members have already published on these topics.
Option 3: Click on the magnifying glass icon at the top of the platform header. You will be automatically redirected to the forum. There you can use the search fields on the right side to search for terms.
Option 4: Click on the "Menu" field at the top of the platform header. When the menu opens, select "Forum". You will be automatically redirected to the forum. There you can use the search fields on the right side to search for terms.

How do I ask a question in the forum?
  • To ask a question in the forum, go to the header bar at the top and click on the "Ask a question" box.

  • A new window will open. There you can first select the category of your question (e.g. life, family, health, language, life residence, work or law) and a subcategory. This way your question can be found and answered faster by other community members and TiG community managers.

  • If you are not sure which category fits your question, it doesn't matter: you can choose any category and we will adjust it later.

  • Tip: Choose a short title for your question. The TiG community managers can adjust the title later. After you have given your question a title, write your question in the field provided.

  • Then click on "Save". Your question will immediately appear in the forum.

 

How can I answer or comment on a question?

To answer or comment on a question, click on the question. You will be redirected to the question page. Below the question you will see a text field with "Write comment". Here you can enter your comment or answer. You can also respond directly to another comment by clicking on the "Reply" button next to an existing comment.

How will I be informed about news regarding my contributions?

When community members respond to your questions or your comments, you will receive an automatic notification. Click the bell icon at the top of the platform header to see all your notifications.

How will I be informed about new discussions in the forum?

If you are particularly interested in a certain topic, category or question, you can follow them. Then you will always be notified about news. To do this, click on "Follow" directly under the category, subcategories or individual discussions in the forum. As soon as there is news, you will receive an automatic notification. Click on the bell icon at the top of the platform header to see all your notifications.

Where can I find the latest posts?

To see the latest posts on TiG, go to the forum and sort the discussions by the latest date of publication. To do this, go to the forum search and select "Created on" in the "Sort by" function. Then click on "Apply".

How do I subscribe to a question or topic?

To subscribe to a question, click the "Follow" button under a category, subcategory, or question. As soon as there is news about it, you will receive an automatic notification under the bell icon in the top right corner of the platform header.

How can I report contributions?      

Posts that insult others, spread false information or violate the terms of use will be deleted by us. If you see such a post, you can report it. To do so, click on "Report a question".

After you have given the reason for your report, the post will be reviewed by us as soon as possible. You can find more about this in our Netiquette

How do I give feedback to the TiG team?

The TiG team welcomes your comments, suggestions and wishes on how we can improve the platform. Write to the community managers directly in the forum or send an email to support@together-in-germany.de.

Note: The community managers do not give advice by e-mail. Please ask your questions directly in the forum.

How do I change my password?

To change the password, click on the profile icon in the top right corner of the platform header and go to "Settings". Enter the password you are currently using under "Current password". After that you can enter your new password on the same page further down. Click on "Save" to confirm it.

How do I change my email address?

To change your email address, click on the profile icon in the top right corner of the platform header and go to "Settings". Enter the password you are currently using under "Current Password". After that you can enter your new email address on the same page further down under "Email address". Click on "Save" to confirm it.

How do I edit my profile?

To do this, go to the top of the platform header, click on the profile icon and click on "Edit profile". Now you can change the information in your profile.

How can I log out?

To do this, go to the header of the platform and click on the profile icon. A menu will open automatically, where you click on "Logout". You will be automatically logged out.

How can I change the language on the platform?

To do this, go to the right in the platform header, where the current platform language is displayed. Click on the currently displayed language and select your desired language from the menu. You can choose between German, English, French, Russian, Turkish, Arabic and Dari/Farsi and Ukrainian.

How can I delete my profile?

To do this, go to the top right of the platform header, click on the profile icon and click on "Settings". If you scroll all the way down in the settings, you will find the "Delete user account" button at the bottom left. Click on it and then press "Delete account" on the next page.

If you do not want to delete your account, you can reactivate it within 7 days. Send a request to support@together-in-germany.de with the subject "Reactivate account". Otherwise, your account will be permanently deleted after 7 days.

Note: If your account is deleted, your posts in the forum will not disappear automatically, but will still be visible without any indication of the author. If you don't want other community members to be able to read your posts even after your account is deleted, delete them before deleting your account.

How can I edit or delete my posts afterwards?

To edit or delete your posts, click on the profile icon in the top header and click on "My profile". There under "My activities" you will find an overview of all the posts you have published in the forum so far. Select the post you want to edit or delete. Your post will open in a new window. Click on the pencil icon in the upper right corner above your question. You will be redirected to a new window where you can edit or delete the content. Save your changes by clicking on "Save".

How can I solve my technical problem?

If you have a problem with the platform, write to the community managers directly in the forum or send us an email to support@together-in-germany.de. We will get back to you to support you.

What happens if I don't use my account for a long time?

If you do not actively use the Together in Germany platform for more than 6 months (no login), your account will be deleted automatically. We will notify you about the upcoming deletion by e-mail.

Registration with SSO

SSO stands for Single Sign On. With SSO, you can log in to social media services like Facebook, Twitter, or Google with just one click. Simply enter your username and the password you use for the respective platform.

Note: If you register on our platform via Facebook, Google or Twitter, the respective provider learns that you come to our site and how long you stay on the platform. The provider does not learn what you write on the platform. If you prefer not to do this, register with your email address.
