Hi DAGNACHEW DEMELASH ABEBE ,

welcome to our forum and thank you for your question.

In general, if you want to come to Germany to work, you must be considered a 'skilled worker': https://handbookgermany.de/en/information-skilled-workers For this, you must prove that your foreign qualifications or university degrees are recognised in Germany. https://handbookgermany.de/en/recognition With the new opportunity card ("Chancenkarte"), people who are not considered a 'skilled worker' might be eligible for receiving a visa for job search when they fulfil other requirements. You can read more about the different requirements here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/opportunity-card#faq_3275

If your degree or qualification is already recognized, you can apply for jobs from outside of Germany. Here you can read more on tips for job search: https://handbookgermany.de/en/jobsearch-and-application With a concrete job offer in Germany, you can apply for the visa for skilled worker at your local German embassy. https://handbookgermany.de/en/visa-skilled-workers

Another possibility is the opportunity card I have already mentioned above. With this visa, you can come to Germany and then look for jobs. https://handbookgermany.de/en/opportunity-card Beside other requirements, you will need to prove sufficient finances for the duration of your stay (up to 1 year).

There is also visa for the recognition of professional qualifications in case your qualification is not fully recognized. https://handbookgermany.de/en/visa-recognition-of-qualifications

You can find out more about further visa options here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/immigration

You can do a quick-check of your options of working and living in Germany here: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/

It's hard to tell how long it would take for one to find a job and start working in Germany. It depends on so many factors like whether or not one's degree or qualification is recognized, which field of work, the capacity of embassies and immigration office, etc. For example, if one finds a job offer in Germany from abroad and the employer is willing, one can come to Germany via 'fast-track procedure for skilled workers': https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/looking-for-foreign-professionals/entering/the-fast-track-procedure-for-skilled-workers

I'm sure this is a lot of information at once. I hope this was helpful and let us know if you have any specific questions.

Best wishes

Seoyoung
