My German husband and I lived in Germany for7 years from ‘93 -2000 I have replaced my US passport with the stamped German unbefristete aufenthalt genehmigung . I don’t have it in my passport I use now .
1. I don’t know how to ascertain that I still have my German iunbefristete aufenthalt genehmigung how do I do that ?
I think I do because it’s “ unbefristete aufenthalt genehmigung” but I’m not 100 % certain If I still have it
2 if I have it does it allow me to be in the Schengen zone for over 90 days if I fly out or fly home to the USA from Germany.?
can I fly into say France and stay in France a month and then go to Germany ?? for a month and then return to France for 2 months making my visit 4 months then fly home from Germany is this safe allowed and not overstaying the 90 day visa rule since I think I still have the unbefristete aufenthalt genehmigung? i
I’m assuming I don’t need to apply for any Schengen visa once I clarify that I do still have a unbefristete aufenthalt genehmigung ?

Hey sribbe , I can imagine that it is frustrating, especially that it is not so easy to get permanent residence. I understand that you want to apply for German citizenship, if you want to apply for it you need to live in Germany, please check requierements: https://handbookgermany.de/en/citizenship#faq_154 I advise you to get in touch with a lawyer. They may be able to give you some legal advice and help you find a way out of this situation. We are an online forum and can give you some initial information. Best Barbara
