Taking Appointment for Family Reunification Visa in Tehran

Mansoor • 19 April 2023

Hello everyone,

This is Mansoor, I have been here in Germany for the last 3 months. My asylum process is going on, still I am waiting for my second main interview. I knew that family reunification takes a long time. So for that I applied for an appointment in Tehran from now (while still waiting for the result of my case to be out.). I did so, because most probabily I will get 3 yrs documents. What do you think, will it create problem on the day of appointment or no? Thank you.

Hello Mansoor, thank you for your question. Can I kindly ask you to shorten your name to just Mansoor, or a nickname. We want to protect the privacy of the platform users and therefore, do not allow for full names to be visible on the platform. Thank you for understanding.

I cannot tell you if this will create a problem in your interview. In general, you can only benefit from the "easy" family reunion process once you are a recognized refugee or asylum seeker. However, it is important that you apply no less than 3 months after you received your final decision from BAMF.
We have more detailed information of how to apply here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/family-reunification
I would also strongly advise you, if you haven’t done so already, to seek out legal advice for your interview with the BAMF. It is important that you are well prepared and know of your rights. For example, you can also bring someone with you to the interview. At the advice center, you can also ask them about your application for family reunification. If you let me know what city you are in, I can search for a counseling center near you. You can also search using our local search tool: https://local.handbookgermany.de/en
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best wishes.

Thank you for your response dear Yara _Community Manager . I am so sorry, I think I could not post my question well and that I could not get your answer well. I meant that my wife has applied for an appointment of family reunification visa from now while I am yet to be recogonized as refugee, as my asylum process is still going on. I hope that I will get an acceptance of 3 yrs documents. Will it create a problem for my wife in her appointment for visa application in Tehran or no? Note that my wife applied from now as she knows that until the visa appointment I will get accepted. I am in Leipzig city.

Hello Mansoor
sorry if my response was not understood. I do not know if this could cause problems. Possibly the visa could be rejected since you are not yet a recognized refugee. And it is likely that if she has an appointment before your asylum decision this would lead to a rejection of the current family reunion application.
I think it makes more sense to apply once you have this recognition. I know the waiting time is at least 12months for Afghan nationals, therefore I understand that you would like to minimise the waiting time. However, I have not come across this case, but I do not think it is possible.
Therefore, I would recommend that you receive a very good asylum procedure advice in order to have the best chances possible of your asylum procedure to be accepted.

If you need further information, I am happy to help.
Best wishes
Yara
