To be able to start your own business, you will need a work permit. In case on your residence permit or the additional green sheet ("Zusatzblatt") it is mentioned that you are allowed to work, you can start your own business.
Furthermore, depending on what kind of business you want to start, you will need to register your business with the responsible authority. It will be likely that you have to register with the trade office ("Gewerbeamt").
