Hi,

I came to Germany on October 2019 on student visa and successfully completing my masters in June 2022 subsequently, I started working under a Blue card visa from July 2022. I am currently planning to apply for 'Niederlassungserlaubnis' by end of this year and am inquiring whether B1 language certificate is required as a proof? I underwent language studies at our university, processing from A2 and went to a private german class until B1.1 in 2023. Is this sufficient enough? I belong to Hofheim (Hesse).

Thank You, Regards

Ak

Hi akhilesh ,

thank you for reaching out to us. If you want to apply for a Niederlassungserlaubnis you will need to prove that you can speak German at B1 level. Here you have more information about the Niederlassungserlaubnis:

I have just emailed to the city of Hessen, to ask if you need to show the B1 certificate, in your case. I will let you know if I get an answer. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best,
Barbara

Hi akhilesh , I have got an answer from Amt für öffentliche Sicherheit und Ordnung in Hofheim. They wrote me that you have to show the B1 certificate. However from my experience: every case is very individual and a lot depends on your clerk. I suggest making an appointment before you apply for the Niederlassungserlaubnis and get individual answers to your questions: https://verwaltungsportal.hessen.de/leistung?leistung_id=L100001_347354…

Hey akhilesh , How are you doing? I was wondering if you figured out the thing about your German. Do you have to show your certificate or the clerk said that it is not necessary? Would you like to share your experience? Best Barbara

Hello Barbara,

Thank you for the answer, yes I contacted my case officer and he said, B1 language is mandatory.
