How can I retrieve my passport?

bamubamu • 15 September 2023

I am facing an issue at the camp. Unfortunately, both the BAMF and the camp management have been unable to resolve the problem, and they have both stated that it is not their responsibility. My situation is highly complex, making it challenging to provide a concise explanation. As a result, I am seeking to relocate to another country. Technically, I initially registered myself in France, so that might be the best course of action. Alternatively, I would like to recover my passport to facilitate travel to another country. I am of South Korean nationality, and regaining my passport would significantly ease the process of relocating. Could you please provide guidance?

Hello, thank you for joining us on our platform from facebook. You are currently in Sigmaringen, correct?
I am sorry to hear that you are facing such difficulties. I would recommend, since you case is complex, that you receive advice from a migration counselling center that can look at your papers. In Sigmaringen the Caritas does such counselling. Have you already received help by the Caritas? They are located Fidelisstr.1, 72488 Sigmaringen. You can find their contact information on this website when you scroll down: https://caritas-sigmaringen.de/migrationsberatung-fuer-erwachsene
Please let me know if you have received help from them.
.
You mention that you have registered in France, I assume as an asylum seeker. If this is the case and your asylum application is ongoing in France then you will have what is called Dublin regulation. That means France is usually responsible for your asylum procedure. This is being checked by Germany and this is why they have your passport. You can familiarize yourself with Dublin regulation and exceptions by reading our chapter: https://handbookgermany.de/en/dublin-procedure

I hope you can soon receive your passport. Please let me know if you have further questions.
Best wishes
