Education right

Dear Community,

I have a question: This is me, Rohi, one of the Afghan students living here in Germany. I completed my master's degree in Italy, but my last thesis remains pending. I am seeking asylum, and I wonder if it's possible for me to resume my studies here or if I should abandon them. Is there any chance to appeal to the government to allow me to complete my last thesis? As everyone knows, during the asylum process, crossing borders and entering another country can be challenging.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello Faridullah Rohi thank you for reaching out to us. That’s great that you have come so far in your studies already. Maybe you can contact your university in Italy explaining your circumstances and ask them if it would be possible to finish writing your thesis in Germany.
As someone in the asylum procedure you have the right to study in Germany. But as you mentioned you are often obliged to live in one designated area and the hurdles for asylum seekers, to enter university, can be quite high. Since you studied in another EU country you can also check if your credits can be transferred to a University in Germany, and you can continue your studies here.
.
One way to get support would be to contact the university you wish to study at and receive some advice at the international office. We have more information on the university application here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/university-application
.
I would also recommend seeking out counselling. If you are under 27 the JMD (youth migration counselling service) can also help you navigate the next steps to take. You can find a counselling centre close to you using this map: https://www.jugendmigrationsdienste.de/
.
If you are unsure where to go, please let me know the city you are currently in and I can search for an advice centre near you.

If you have any further questions, I am always happy to help.
Best wishes
