change from freelancer to professor

Greetings.

First, thanks for your time reading my question.

I came to Germany in 2018 to study a M.A. in film, then after finishing changed my visa to freelancer which is valid until next year.

However, I got accepted into a Junior Professorship and they are currently preparing the contract. Sadly, they have taken long time and the contract is coming almost at the beggining of the semester.

My question is which process do I need to do with the auslanderamt, since I think the beamter status (temporary, during the years of the Jr. Prof. contract) is not the same than freelancer, even tho I have also the permit to freelance as teacher but I assume that is only for lehrauftrag, which I have been doing the last 2 years.

Also, I need to change my health insurance I assume, but I am sure the residence permit change is the most important... Who should I approach and what should I prepare?

Thanks for your information.

Felipe.

Hey frm_1985 , Congratulations on your professorship and the contract you will receive in October. I understand that you will be starting work very soon. It is very important that you have official permission from the immigration authorities before you start. For this reason, please contact a migration advice centre as soon as possible: https://bamf-navi.bamf.de/de/Themen/Migrationsberatung/ They may have some advice on how to deal with this situation. Normally, as soon as you receive the official offer of a junior professorship, you should apply for a residence permit according to §19 https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/aufenthg_2004/__19c.html You should get your residence permit for 3 years if your contract is not shorter. After three years you will get the permanent residence permit. Best wishes Barbara
