I have a query regarding the Chancenkarte Visa extension. The Chancenkarte visa that is valid for six months. If anyone unable to find a skilled worker job due to the language barrier starts a part-time job (20 hours/week) in a restaurant, is it possible to extend the visa with the part-time restaurant contract?
If yes, how much longer is the extension possible?
Hello Kash, thank you for reaching out to us.
In order to extend the visa, you will need an offer for a qualified job that has been approved by the Federal Employment Agency. Then, your Opportunity Card can be extended for a maximum of another 2 years. Most probably your work at the restaurant is unfortunately not counted as a qualified profession, unless you are a specialist chef.
You can find more information on the extension here: https://handbookgermany.de/en/opportunity-card#faq_3279
There are also other visas such as the visa for language acquisition which you might want to look into, if you want to improve your German. This requires you to have an intensive German course with a minimum of 18 hours of German a week, you also need to show that you can cover you living costs and you can work up to 20hours a week.
More information about this title can be found here: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/visa-residence/types/other/language-acquisition
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Best wishes.
